Paul was born 1958 in Kansas and grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana. An acoustic guitar appeared under the Christmas tree in 1965 and I followed the chord chart that came with it. It seemed easy and I was soon strumming a simple four-chord progression. Also, much classical music was heard about the house much of the time. Then The Beatles came to the U.S., and it was ON! My first high quality guitar was a '71-'72 Telecaster Thinline with a Mike Matthews Freedom amp.
I got a Fender Pro Reverb and was noticed at a gig in a local club and joined Midwest monsters GOLIATH in 1978 and was the lead guitarist for nearly 5 years. We toured the high school/college show circuit doing dances, proms, fraternity parties and other university sponsored events. Played many clubs and bands over the years, and finally stepped out in front of thousands of people opening for nationally known recording artists "Head East.”
In 1996, torn up and addicted to almost everything, I finally “turned my will and life over to the care of God" and things began to improve quickly.
I currently teach guitar and have been amazed at the response to our renditions of Styx's songs. I'm very proud to be a member of this talented band, and am humbled by our devoted fans.
